As we settle into 2021, we would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year.
With the Christmas decorations packed away for another year, it’s about that time when we start to see 2021 predictions. However, who could have predicted 2020! With so much uncertainty ahead, we asked our Sales Director Matt Murray to take a look back at 2020 and instead of predictions, focus on what he would like to see 2021 deliver for the industry.
Q: What are your personal highlights of the year?
Matt: “2020 was a challenging year for most. However, it did lead us to think and act differently, which resulted in innovative new ways of working and communicating. I have to say how proud I was of how the business adapted to the Covid situation. Maintaining a good level of business, morale and collaborative working in the new (virtual) way with clients, throughout. Company-wise a few honourable mentions are listed below.
- Hertford Rugby Football Club stadium project using our NEW FL810 floodlight for sports lighting.
- Bob Gaskell, Contracts Director of the company and a very close friend became President of the Highway Electrical Association in November.
- Securing ISO-45001 an important step for any business
- Five stars for E950 (new residential luminaire) from Lux Recommends
- A new partnership with Scotscape Smartscape with the eco-friendly Smart LivingPillar
- Made in Britain membership”
Q: And your wish list for the year ahead?
“Above all, I am sure we would all like to see COVID-19 zapped this year, enabling people to move around safely. We are social beings, and this plays a big role in the sales job function, so I would welcome back face-to-face contact; am sure we all missed having a beer at the HEA Annual Conference with clients and colleagues alike. 2020 tested our resilience and introduced flexible new ways of working, which we proved work! So these options should remain available to us all. I just hope the nation and the world embrace the restrictions to enable a safer and quicker route out of the situation and hopefully enjoy the year ahead (at some point)”.
Q: What key developments would you like to see in the market this year?
“Innovative products and enhanced development of current ones, is a great starter for 10. The use of British Made products in our market would enhance the economy on its rebound from Covid too.
Q: What positive effects do you think COVID will have on CU this year, how will things change?
“The team at CU Phosco are looking forward to working on many more exciting projects incorporating new technology developments and working with new and old customers alike”.
